Kaliningrad-based carmaker Avtotor intends to create production facilities for the annual production of 5,000 electric vehicles, said Valery Gorbunov, Chairman of the Avtotor board of directors during an interview with journalists of the TASS press agency.
“According to some estimates, in 2024 a total of 5-6 thousand electric vehicles can be sold. What share we will borrow depends on consumers. We create capacities for 5 thousand electric cars a year“, said the Chairman.
According to Valery Gorbunov, the Russian carmaker Avtotor would be able to produce in 2023 an experimental batch of 200 electric vehicles of its own production, so that the company to be certified. In 2024, the manufacturer plans to start serial production in volumes to be determined by the market.
The electric cars will not be produced under the Avtotor brand, the company is considering the possibility of cooperation with Kia, Hyundai, and in the future with BMW.
“In 2024, when we are preparing to launch pilot production, a specific manufacture plan will be formed for the real needs of the market. Then we will be able to clearly plan the market” said the Chairman of the Board of Avtotor. According to him, now there are a lot of factors that do not allow planning production volumes, including so far it is difficult to predict how the infrastructure for electric cars will develop. Valery Gorbunov added that Avtotor plans to start producing cars with electric and gas engines with a cruising range of 400 km in 2024.
The Avtotor company was founded in 1994 in Kaliningrad. It was the first in Russia to start producing cars of foreign brands. Production has been in progress since May 1997. Avtotor produces cars under the brands BMW, Kia and Hyundai.
